Atlanta Falcons logo history
The Atlanta Falcons adopted the current logo in 2003. It shows a black and red falcon outlined in silver, with the bird’s wing and body forming an F. A more pointed wing, extended talon and red interior details distinguish this design from the earlier black falcon.

Old
The old Falcons logo is the black bird associated with the team’s original identity and in its 1990–2002 version. The current bird keeps the same basic direction and letter shape but changes the anatomy and stance. The older, simpler falcon remains familiar from Atlanta throwback uniforms.
Why does the Falcons logo look like an F?
The bird doubles as the initial of Falcons: the wing supplies the upper stroke and the body descends below it. Its beak points right, while the feathers trail left. Both the old and current versions combine the team name and an animal silhouette in one mark.
When did the Atlanta Falcons start playing?
Atlanta received its NFL franchise in 1965 and began playing in 1966. The Falcons reached their first Super Bowl after the 1998 season while using the older black-falcon identity. The current design arrived several seasons later, before the team’s 2003 campaign.
