Jacksonville Jaguars logo history
The Jacksonville Jaguars unveiled the current jaguar-head logo on February 5, 2013. The redesign introduced a more detailed face, revised spots and a sharper expression while keeping the gold, black and teal identity. The open mouth and teal tongue distinguish the Jaguars’ mark from other big-cat logos.

The original head used from the inaugural era has a flatter outline, heavier black shapes and a different arrangement of spots and facial details. The 2013 redesign reshaped the eye, nose and jaw. The older head is also associated with Jacksonville’s Prowler throwback identity.
Why is the Jaguars logo’s tongue teal?
The teal tongue brings one of Jacksonville’s signature team colors directly into the animal’s face. The gold coat and black spots identify a jaguar, while white separates the teeth and other details.
When did the Jacksonville Jaguars start playing?
Jacksonville received its expansion franchise in 1993 and began playing in 1995, alongside the Carolina Panthers. The original jaguar head belongs to that first era, including the 1996 and 1999 AFC championship-game teams. The current design began a new visual era in 2013.
