New York Jets logo history
The New York Jets introduced their updated legacy logo in 2024. It brings back the jet-and-JETS concept used from 1978 through 1997, with revised lettering and aircraft details. The current oval application contains the updated JETS wordmark and jet.

The old Jets oval from 1998–2018 combines large NY initials, JETS lettering and a football. The current design replaces those stacked elements with a cleaner italic wordmark and a jet extending over the letters. The 1998–2018 emblem also appears on the team’s Classic throwback helmet.
Where is the airplane in the Jets logo?
The jet extends rightward over the word JETS, joining the lettering to a streamlined aircraft silhouette. The original version of that idea was designed by Jim Pons in the late 1970s. The 2024 update revisits Pons’s design with revised lettering and aircraft details.
When did the New York Jets start playing?
The franchise began as the Titans of New York in 1960 and became the Jets in 1963. Its Super Bowl III championship belongs to the earlier oval-logo era. The current legacy identity references the later Sack Exchange era, while the classic oval connects to a different part of the team’s history.
